Owl moulds

Silicon owl moulds which can be easily bought from Amazon and other online retailers (see Links below) are useful and versatile to add to your collection of kitchen equipment, especially if you have parties for children coming up.

The easiest method is to use the microwave.

Having bought your chocolate of whatever colour or colours (I find white tends to be the most popular with children), break it up into small pieces and place in a microwavable jug.

Microwave on around 800W. You can set the timer for 60 seconds but keep interrupting and checking every 15-20 seconds to make sure it doesn’t overheat. Keep going beyond 60 seconds if required (depends on how much you have in there). You’ll know it’s ready when there are just a couple of blobs of chocolate left. You can then take it out and just gently stir until these too have fully melted.

Doing it in a jug makes it easier to pour into the moulds, but use a spoon to catch the drips as you go from cavity to cavity.

You can also add popping candy , or raisins, cranberries, coconut, if you want. Just sprinkle these into the crevices as you pour out the chocolate.

These go down a treat, especially at owl-themed birthday parties.

You can also use the moulds for making other types of candy or even soaps.
