Cookie Dough Chocolate Pops

My daughter had a play date today and she always likes me to bake some cookies.  Today, however, I decided to do something a little different and rather than the dry, crisp cookies that she and her friends like to decorate, I thought why not something a little exciting!

One of my favourite ice creams is Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough, for the simple reason that I love the sweet, salty chunks of cookie.  So, I thought, why not try and make a dessert that consists of nothing but cookie dough!

It may not be the most exciting or original idea, but it’s not something I’ve tried before!  I also thought it would be fun for us all to do and after everyone had washed their hands, myself and two excited young six year olds got busy making these delicious cookie dough chocolate pops.

They’re really easy and I’m sure if you didn’t have two little girls biting at your heels, impatient to try the sweet treats, you could try this with dark chocolate or even sprinkles!  Or, for an exciting twist, why not melt down a chocolate orange and use that to coat the cookie dough?!

  • 3¾ ounces / 110g unsalted butter, softened
  • 2½ ounces / 75g soft light brown sugar
  • 3 ounces / 90g caster sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • ½ tablespoon of vanilla essence
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 5¼ ounces / 150g plain flour
  • 10½ ounces / 300g milk chocolate chips


In a freestanding mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.

Add the milk and vanilla and continue to beat until combined.

Add the salt and flour and beat on a slow speed until everything comes together into a smooth dough.

Add 3½ ounces / 100g of the chocolate chips and stir in by hand.

Transfer the bowl to a refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes.

Remove and roll the cookie dough into walnut sized balls.

Skewer each ball with a cake pop stick so that it has almost gone all the way through.

Place all of the coockie dough pops into the freezer for at least 30 minutes.

Melt the remaining chocolate in a microwavable dish in 30 seconds bursts on the highest setting.

Remove the cookie dough from the freezer and roll the balls in the melted chocolate and either stand upside down (with the sticks in the air) on some parchment and cool in the fridge or place upright in a cake pop stand and refrigerate.


If you don’t have a cake pop stand (as I don’t) simply take a very large potato, slice the bottom off (so it has a flat base to stop it toppling over) and you can skewer the sticks into the potato as a make-shift stand.
